Aestu is the liquid timer born for those who experience time differently.

Have you ever stared at a timer and felt paralyzed by anxiety?

Or ignored it completely because the numbers didn't feel "real"?

Natively designed for the entire Apple ecosystem (iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch), I created Aestu for myself and for all neurodivergent minds who, like me, battle "Time Blindness" every single day.

The problem isn't you. It's the design.

If a classic "05:00... 04:59..." countdown puts pressure on you, it isn't your fault.

Watching frantically changing digits creates unnecessary Cognitive Load.

Your brain wastes precious resources processing constant movement instead of using them for your primary task.

In Aestu, I applied Neuro-Aesthetics to eliminate this visual noise:

  • Softness Psychology: I exclusively use the SF Pro Rounded font. Scientifically, sharp angles activate the amygdala (fear response), while rounded shapes are perceived by the nervous system as safe and friendly.
  • Visual Stability: The digits use monospaced spacing (.monospacedDigit()). This prevents the "dance" of numbers changing width (e.g., between a '1' and a '0'), removing the visual clutter that distracts an ADHD mind.

Don’t read time. Feel it.

For those with ADHD, time is a feeling, not a sequence of numbers.

Aestu transforms the abstract concept of a "minute" into a colored fluid that communicates instantly with your nervous system:

  • 🔵 Indigo (Focus): The color of calm. You are deep in your flow.
  • 🔴 Red (Urgency): The final minute. It triggers a Visual Pulse (Panic Pulse) designed to grab your attention without inducing the panic typical of auditory alarms.
  • 🟢 Teal (Pause): Time is "frozen." The liquid slows down to signal that it is time to recover energy.
  • 🟠 Orange (Overtime): You have exceeded the set time, but the timer continues to support you instead of interrupting you.

Zero is not a wall (Stop RSD)

The thing I hated most about common timers?

That sense of "failure" when the alarm goes off and you haven't finished.

For those who suffer from RSD (Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria), that signal is perceived as a negative judgment.

In Aestu, zero is a fluid transition.

When you run out of time, the timer enters Overtime mode and counts forward (e.g., +02:30).

  • Why it works: This transforms panic into awareness. It allows you to finish your thought calmly, protecting your Flow State (the state of peak concentration) and giving you tangible proof of how much extra time you actually needed.

Task Memory: Win the resistance to starting

Have you ever put off a task just because the idea of setting everything up again felt exhausting?

This is called Executive Dysfunction.

That’s why I designed Aestu to remember your last session: if you set a 10-minute timer for a specific task, the app will keep that time and name ready for you when you restart.

  • The Science: Reducing the steps required to start an activity is fundamental for those with ADHD. By eliminating the need to reconfigure the app every time, I lower the "barrier to entry" (cognitive friction), helping you get back into it immediately.

Train your Interoception

Many neurodivergent people suffer from poor Interoception: the difficulty in perceiving internal signals like tiredness until they are exhausted.

At the end of a session, Aestu asks: "How do you feel?"

  • 🟢 Energized
  • 🟡 Neutral
  • 🔴 Drained
  • The Logic: This check-in practice trains your metacognitive awareness. By reviewing your history, you will learn which tasks "feed" you and which "drain" you, allowing you to plan your day based on your real energy rather than impossible schedules.

Cooldown: Protect your Working Memory

Science shows that after 15-20 minutes of interruption, Working Memory empties itself of the context of the previous work.

Resuming then becomes a Herculean task.

Aestu helps you stay in the "safe zone":

  • Haptic Heartbeat (Somatic Nudge): After 5 minutes of pausing, you receive a physical vibration that mimics a heartbeat. It is a tactile reminder designed to break screen hypnosis (doom-scrolling) without the stress of an aggressive sound.
  • Supportive Auto-Stop: If you exceed 15 minutes of pausing, the app saves everything and closes the session. It is a gentle way to protect your energy when focus has already "cooled down."

Technology that respects your mind

Every technical choice in Aestu was guided by the need to reduce anxiety and support your cognitive processes:

  • Analog Input & Digital Crown: You set the time by rotating your finger or the Apple Watch crown. Scientifically, circular physical input provides multimodal feedback that helps the brain give real "weight" to the time duration you are setting.
  • Impulsivity Protection: To avoid accidental resets, the Reset button requires a 1.5-second long press. This intentional "cognitive friction" serves to prevent slip errors typical of ADHD impulsivity.
  • Reality Anchor: Under the liquid timer, you always see the exact end time (e.g., "Finishing at 14:35"). This concrete data calms the amygdala and fights Time Blindness by anchoring the abstract session to the reality of your day.
  • Extended Runtime (WatchOS): I implemented dedicated sessions to ensure the timer works even if the screen turns off. This removes the anxiety of having to constantly check the device, allowing you to rely entirely on haptic feedback on your wrist.
  • Live Activities & Dynamic Island: Follow the countdown from your lock screen. This reduces the need to unlock your phone, minimizing the risk of being captured by distracting notifications from other apps.

Reclaim your time.

Aestu is a handcrafted tool.

No ads, no data sold, no predatory subscriptions.

Just a new way to experience time, respecting how your brain actually works.
