Introduction

NurseToolBox (“we,” “our,” or “the App”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our iOS/iPadOS medical calculator application designed for nurses and healthcare students.

Our Privacy Commitment

NurseToolBox is designed with privacy as a core principle:

• No personal information collection
• No user accounts or registration required
• No server-side data storage
• No third-party analytics or tracking
• No advertisements
• All data stays on your device or your personal iCloud

Information We DO NOT Collect

We do not collect, transmit, or store:

• Personal identifiable information (name, email, phone number)
• Patient health information or medical records
• Location data
• Device identifiers for tracking purposes
• Usage analytics or crash reports
• Any data that could identify you or your patients

Information Stored Locally on Your Device

NurseToolBox stores the following data exclusively on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework:

1. Calculation History

• What: Results from medical calculations you perform (e.g., “BMI Calculation: 23.5”)
• Purpose: To allow you to review your recent calculations
• Storage: Local device only (unless you enable iCloud sync - see below)
• Retention: Until you manually delete entries or uninstall the app
• Data includes:
  • Calculation title
  • Timestamp of when calculation was performed
  • Result value
  • Calculation type

Note: Calculation history does NOT include any patient names, identifiers, or personal health information unless you manually type them into the calculation fields.

2. User Preferences

The app stores minimal preferences using Apple’s UserDefaults:

• Onboarding completion status (whether you’ve seen the welcome screens)
• Favorite tools (which calculators you’ve marked as favorites)
• Recently used tools (last 5 tools you’ve accessed for quick access)

These preferences contain only tool identifiers (e.g., “bmi_calculator”, “dosage_calculator”) and no personal or medical data.

Optional iCloud Synchronization

If you choose to purchase the Premium version (€1.99) and enable iCloud sync:

• Your calculation history
• Your favorite tools list
• App preferences

How iCloud Works

• Data is synchronized through your personal iCloud account
• Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
• Only YOU can access this data across your devices signed into the same iCloud account
• We (the developer) never have access to your iCloud data
• Data is subject to Apple’s iCloud Privacy Policy

Disabling iCloud

You can disable iCloud sync at any time in the app settings. This will:

• Stop syncing new data to iCloud
• Keep existing local data on your device
• Remove synced data from iCloud after 30 days of inactivity (per Apple’s CloudKit policies)

Medical Information and HIPAA

Important Disclaimers

NurseToolBox is a calculation tool, NOT a patient records system:

• The app is designed to perform mathematical calculations and display clinical scales
• It is your responsibility to ensure no patient-identifiable information is entered into the app
• We strongly recommend using anonymous or de-identified data for all calculations
• The app is not HIPAA-covered because we do not collect, transmit, or store Protected Health Information (PHI)

Best Practices

• Do NOT enter patient names, medical record numbers, or other identifiers
• Use the app for calculations only, not for documenting patient care
• Follow your healthcare facility’s policies regarding mobile device usage
• Never use the app as a substitute for professional medical judgment

Data Security

Local Storage Security

• Data stored on your device is protected by iOS’s built-in security features
• Data is accessible only within the app’s sandboxed environment
• If your device has a passcode/Face ID/Touch ID enabled, app data is encrypted at rest

No Third-Party Access

• We do not use third-party analytics services (no Google Analytics, Firebase, etc.)
• We do not use crash reporting tools that send data externally
• We do not integrate advertising networks

In-App Purchases

If you purchase the Premium version (€1.99 lifetime):

• The transaction is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store
• We receive only anonymous transaction verification tokens
• We do NOT receive your name, email, payment information, or purchase history
• Purchases are tied to your Apple ID and managed by Apple’s systems

Children’s Privacy

NurseToolBox is designed for healthcare professionals and students (typically 18+). We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app does not contain age gates or restrictions, as it is a professional medical tool.

Data Retention and Deletion

Deleting Your Data

You can delete all app data at any time:

1. Delete calculation history: Swipe left on individual entries in the app, or use “Clear All History” in settings
2. Delete all app data: Uninstall the app from your device
3. Delete iCloud data: Disable iCloud sync in app settings, then go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Storage > NurseToolBox > Delete Documents & Data

What Happens When You Uninstall

• All local data (history, preferences) is permanently deleted from your device
• iCloud data remains for 30 days, then is automatically purged by Apple’s CloudKit
• No residual data remains on any servers (because we don’t use servers)

International Users and Data Transfers

• All data remains on your device or your personal iCloud account
• No data is transferred to external servers or databases
• If you use iCloud, data may be stored in Apple’s data centers worldwide (governed by Apple’s policies)
• The app complies with GDPR principles of data minimization and purpose limitation

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect:

• New app features
• Changes in privacy laws
• User feedback

Notification of Changes:

• Major changes will be communicated via an in-app alert
• The “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy will be updated
• Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance

Your Rights (GDPR/CCPA Compliance)

Even though we don’t collect personal data, you have the right to:

• Access: View all data stored in the app (available in Settings > Calculation History)
• Rectification: Edit or correct any saved calculations
• Erasure: Delete individual entries or all data at any time
• Data Portability: Export your calculation history (Premium feature planned)
• Objection: Opt out of iCloud sync if you prefer local-only storage

Third-Party Services

Apple Services Used

The app uses only native Apple frameworks:

• SwiftData: Local database (on-device only)
• CloudKit/iCloud: Optional sync (user-controlled, Apple-managed)
• StoreKit: In-app purchases (Apple-managed)

These are governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

No Other Third Parties

We do not integrate:

• Analytics services (Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.)
• Crash reporting (Crashlytics, Sentry, etc.)
• Advertising networks
• Social media SDKs
• Backend servers or APIs
